Latest news burma time 16;17

i got news that 3 groups of protester are marching on the Ahnawrahta Street(which is near Sule pogada) toward Sule. it is around 4000 people. .................. in this group we found some foreigners, as well. ..... said eyewitness.

Dear All,

I sadly announce that the Burmese military junta has cut off the internet connection throughout the country. I therefore would not be able to feed in pictures of the brutality by the brutal Burmese military junta.

I will also try my best to feed in their demonic appetite of fear and paranoia by posting any pictures that I receive though other means (Journos!! please don’t ask me what other means would be??). I will continue to live with the motto that “if there is a will there is a way”.

We probably need to lobby the Chinese government or UN envoy to Burma to ask the junta to switch on the Internet. Please!

the bridge between south-okakkla and Noth Dagon bridge has been closed.

Good luck to all the folks in Burma in their quest for freedom and democracy. You will all be in my prayers as I got to sleep tonight. Hopefully the internet will get turned back on there so the junta won't be allowed to get away with what ever they are planning.

I think this passage from my country's Declaration of Independence is very relevant:

"That to secure these rights [life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness], Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

One practical measure that we on the outside should be able to do is to issue international arrest warrants for all members of the junta. This would give them someting of a taste of their own vile medicine.

And yes, the threat of an Olympic boycott might persuade China of where her broader interests lie.

Thank you so much for your valliant efforts to keep us informed.

My heart is breaking...I long to be back in Rangoon standing shoulder to shoulder with my dear friends. Their bravery is to be applauded. The world must not desert them now.

The last few days have been very hard, watching and hearing of all that has happened, but in some ways it is worse today with so little news. One can only imagine what the military is up to and it must be bad if they have cut off all internet and phone communications. That means that they don't want the world to see what they are doing.

May God keep all the Burmese people safe and may the Karma due be piled on Than Swhe & his cohorts. They are paranoid, greedy, power-hungry freaks.

We, the rest of the world must help these poor, gentle people to be rid of idiots who have control of Burma. We can not allow them to get away with this any more.

My heart and prayers are with you all.

My condolences go to the family and friends of Kenji Nagai, and all the people murdered and injured during this sad time.

You're a resourcefull lot of people for being both brave enough to keep us updated, as well as facing a brutal military regime, so you can and will find a way to keep showing the world what is really going on! You're on my mind, not just you, but all living under the opressive regime, whether they're brave enough (or maybe foolish) to speak out, or whether they stay indoors, praying this will end with a regime change.

All sites with the extension .mm (Myanmar) cannot be reached anymore. I'm afraid the Burmese military has effectively isolated itself from the WWW. Even government sites cannot be contacted...

Shame the cbox had to go but they were abusing it! Is there any way to control who can post on there?
Any news yet? I've been keeping an eye on Irawaddy and Mizzima, but nothing new for a while, probably due to communication clamp-down. I had heard that people were being stopped in the street and searched for cameras/phones.

I want to help. I am offering my home computer as an anonymous proxy server for anyone who needs to get info out of Burma (or into Burma). I realize the internet has been cut, but perhaps there are other people nearby (in China?) with info on Burmese events who could also use this.

There is a service called Psiphon to help people in repressive countries connect freely to the internet. See http://psiphon.civisec.org to understand how it works. It requires a person in a free country to set up a server. This is what I am volunteering. I will set up a Psiphon host server, and make it available to people who can use it to help the Burmese freedom movement.

If you have a contact who could use this, email me at buffer02@comcast.net, and I can explain how to connect. The end user will be anonymous on the net; their activity will appear to come from my IP address. I am located in the US. I have only a single broadband connection, but I will host as many people as I can.

I suggest all other concerned parties around the world also look at Psiphon and consider helping. Burma needs our help right now. But there are many other countries like China, Iran, etc., who need help to freely exchange information over the web. Psiphon might give you the power to help the people you care about.

I want you to know that Romania is close to you in these extreme moments. We also encountered similar events in 1989 when we made our Revolution and changed from communism to democracy. Only your protests are more painful because they last for so many days and a positive resolution is still far away. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in these days.

I also wrote to our president and prime-minister and asked them to give a declaration on tv against the military junta in Burma, but I didn't receive any answer yet.

I've been watching the events since the very beginning. Unfortunately I can't do anything beside worrying and writing supportive words occasionally on the internet. I feel so sad about the Burmese people...

David, Romania! I am hungarian, and I clearly remember your brave revolution, the terrible massacre in Temesvar (Timisoara), and execution of Ceausescu. We were all watching that on the television, and I remember the people gathered medicines, and gave blood to send to Romania. I hope, some day Burma will be free, as now Romania is.

I read an article today in one of our french paper which tells us about the work you are doing from where you are Mr. Ko Htike. For many years now, I have been anxious about what was going on for Mrs. Suu Kyi, and now about people of Burma. I wrote mails to Burma embassies yesterday in different countries, since internet links were stopped between the rest of the world and Burma. I wanted them to know how much I was outraged about their actions against their people, as a journalist and a mother of four kids. I also wrote a mail to the Japan embassy in Canada to ask them what they would need to stop supporting the Burma dictature : ten journalists killed, one hundred ? I told all of them they should be ashamed about their actions. That is nothing in comparison of what you are doing but I am keeping telling your story at work and in my family. Be strong ; we will support you.

They have tried to supress news coming out, which is in itself a very bad sign. Amazing to see Buddist Monks so involved in direct action, there image is one of peace. Ive walked with some Buddist peace marchers in the UK and they were polite, determined and great to be around. I think the world will see them in a different light now. Look out China.
