An email message from burma

Today, the people’s uprising lead by the monks, NLD members, students and citizens of Burma are entering the battle with their lives and blood.

In the aftermath of 8888 (18 Aug 1988) pro-democracy uprising, the Burmese democracy activists were forced to leave the country in exile. They tried achieving democracy from abroad. Both the exile oppositions organizations and the international community share the similar opinion to bring about a change in the country from force within. We also believe in a change by standing up against the regime from within with a united force. Today is the tenth day that the monks have led the protest in the streets with the students and citizens to defy the junta.

In this revolution, 15 monks and people including a Japanese citizen have sacrificed their lives in this cause. In Burma, the only path to oppose the military junta is to demonstrate peacefully. The military junta repressed the peaceful demonstration brutally by hiding truth. The longer the military junta represses the people we are bound to loos more lives.

Would the Burmese community in exile and the institutions like the UN and EU wait till the situation in Burma gets worse like Darfur in Sudan?

The neighbouring countries like China, and so called democratic countries like India and ASEAN countries selfishly avoiding the problems in Burma by brushing pass as our internal problems. It does not matter how many people the military kills, we woe to struggle and scarify our lives to restore democracy for our future generation.

On behalf of the Burmese people I salute the courage of Mr Kenji Nagai, a Japanese journalist employed by the APF Tsushin based in Tokyo, who scarified his life whilst recording media footage of gun shots to educate the global citizens.

This is what i got from my mail and telling what was happening with him on 27/09/07

Below is an actual of what had happen yesterday on 27/9/07.

I am a Singaporean working in Myanmar for the past 11 years.
I was on my way to office( near Thuwana area) at around 4 to 4.30pm when the riot police block the road near "Super one, ILBC area". I stop my car with my wife and walk out. suddenly riot police and soldiers drove the truck around the corner and start firing shots at the crowd. we quickly ran to the side and squat down near the wall.
The soldiers came down and start to shoot at us. I was shot twice but i did not know what hit me. My both leg were bruised. the soldiers and police kicked us and the rest of the crowds into the drain and shouted that they would kill us if we look at them.

We were forced to stay in the drain for 15 mins and gather by the into a group.
A commander came and gather his troops and drove off to Tamwe direction.
After that ,i looked at my injures and and found injures on my left and right legs.
My wife found the "40mm riot control munnition" empty cartridge that the soldiers shoot at me.

I would like the embassy and media to know the actions of this army.
We are just ordinary citizen going to work and they just shot at us for no reason.
Imagine what they would do to the protesters!

I would like the Singapore government would make a strong stand against this violence crack down on the monks and people.

attached is the photo of my injures .
I have been attended by a private doctor on my injures.
The doctor said i was very lucky that the shot missed the groin area.

Please know that we are standing beside you in protest.

I hope you would be able to air your concerns to the Singporean government.

It seems they are also shooting people like yourself who they invited to come and set up businesses in the country. In democratic Burma, we will not treat you in such an attrociatious manner.

Above all, on behalf of Burmese people, please accept my sincere appologies for their despicable acts towards you and your family. I hope you get well soon.

Hi

I am willing to help you. :-)
I am ready to host any pictures you might have, please send me them to this email account, burma@jonfr.com

I support your effort, both in word and in works I hope.

I also suggest that people inside Burma use the tor network if they can. To mask there trail and to avoid being censored by the regime that is trying to cut them off.

Good luck!

Don't panic. I believe in Burmese's courage and karma.
They will soon become like Taliban who had destroyed buddha statue.

All the generals have been suffering serious illness.
On the other hand, Aung San Su Kyi has been getting stronger mentally and physically.

But my personal belief is that we'll win only after
the soldiers join with the people.

Victory is not too far. Dawn will be seen soon after midnight.

At first, I was so filled with pride and pleasure to see the monks demonstrating with such numbers and speaking out against the oppression, but that turned quickly to horror when the tyrants in power ordered this mind-numbing crackdown.

I hope and pray that this modern era means the word continues to get out about this. I mean, even the puppet president, George Bush, is calling out the government. One can only hope such widespread knowledge of these attrocities can inspire change from the brutal ways of old Burma.

Human Rights movements really began with the birth of photography and the horrors of the Congo, which Joseph Conrad would later write down in the Heart of Darkness. People saw pictures of Congo heads on stakes and it inspired the world over the next two decades to rage against the "evil-doers", Belgium's King Leo.

Blogging, tho, wow. Here we are, on the other side of the world, opposite a government forbidding the sending of images, yet we're clued in by way of these incredibly brave citizens fighting the hard fight. It blows the mind that something so frivolous and silly as a cellphone picture, something we shoot dozens of times a week, could cost these people their lives.

I can't help but be lost in thought wondering about them and hoping like all hell they elude the bad guys. The world needs more people who are brave enough to take a stand like these people are in the face of such tyranny as this.

Sorry if I digressed.

Your blog is very, very important and I know you're not getting paid and you probably have a life to live despite all this, so I hope you find the strength and time to keep this going. The good you're doing will all come back to you. Bless you.

it's so sad to see those pictures. but if there were not any pictures, no one would understand how serious the problem is in Burma. I wasn't burn in there, but my parents were. I hope the world can do something for those innocent people.

Sadly I feel countries wont help out till they hear some of their own nationals are being made victims.

Hopefully this story will stir the ASEAN to act!

I wish you and the whole movement for democracy in Burma the strength to see this struggle through. You are most definetly doing your part in this, by letting the world know what's really going on on the streets.

"Wir sind das Volk!" (we are the people) is what the East Germans used to shout in their protests that eventually got them their freedom.

The Singaporean government unfortunately won't be too concerned. They have far too much economic investment in Burma to change the status quo. Singapore has developed itself economically off the back of gas imports from Burma, which by doing so has become one of the largest ASEAN investors, propping up the Junta in the process! Get well soon and get out of Burma as soon as you can.

What is the point giving mere moral support while unarmed Burmese are shot and killed? This is the time to ACT. Send money, arms and wireless sets to the Burmese democracy activists and prepare them for a guerrilla war. The Burmese Army will not understand any other language other than bullets and bombs. Burmese democracy activists must launch guerrilla warfare against the Burmese Army and the whole world should send them money, arms and all help. This is the only practical solution.

I can't put into words how sad and angry I feel about the mistreatment of the Burmese people.

Even sadder is the fact that the rape of this country + its citizens by a handful of cruel dictators has been ignored by the rest of the world for decades and that it takes "visuals of blood + death" for people to finally take notice.

My respect for the new + old generation of 8888'ers + the monks who put their lives in the line of fire, knows no bounds.

I fear that Birma is not (yet) important enough for the likes of Bush or the Chinese gov. to interfere in any meaningful way, so I would encourage all people in the West to express their opinion on the deeply immoral actions of this regime by e-mail or letter to the Burmese embassy in their country. Lists of these embassies are available on the Internet.

Strength to all the people in Birma and the Birmese ex-pat activists. My heart truly goes out to you, and has done for many years.

I am so sorry to see the horror happening now in Burma. To see such brutality inflicted on such peaceful monks and protestors is sickening. I want you to know how much I support you, the people of Burma and especially the monks as well as Aung San Suu Ki who has been an inspiration to me and many people around the world. To the people of Burma please know that we are watching, we DO care and we are praying for an end to this horrible government. I have sent many messages to the US government urging them to support you and I truly hope they and other countries around the world will do so.
With the utmost respect and admiration to you and all who stand for peace.

I urge the Danish government to put pressure on any nation that could influence the situation in Myanmar for the better of your people. Easy to say from distance, but the best I can do right now from where I am. Shame on a ridicoulos regime. I saw an upper-class Burmesian wedding on the net yesterday and felt pity for the couple walking and sitting in a high-class, low-intelligent and just greedy environment of apparently unsafe morons. Re: image of rubber impact round injuries and cartridge.

Does anyone have all the text that was marked on this ammunition? This would include any "headstamp" markings found on the metal base. Can anyone contact the original injured person and ask them?

Most likely to be manufactured by ST Kinetics of Singapore who manufacture a range of "less lethal" munitions.

If we can get all markings we can make a proper ID of the source of this ammunition.

Thanks.
