Subject: Burma: Sending a message or two or three or four... to China
HOW TO HELP BURMA?
If everybody we know emails a request (not for tickets, but for
China's action for Burma) to ticketsupport@beijing2008.cn, it will
significantly slow down Olympics ticket sales and call China's
attention to the matter. China may ignore protests, hunger strikes,
petitions, wearing-red shirts, etc. But China cannot ignore these
emails, which get in the way of processing Olympics ticket requests.
Please see the template at the bottom. Please also pledge to send the
same email every 6 hours, or every time you check your email. If they
get tens of thousands of email a day, they will have to do something
about it.
WHY?
China should use its leverage to bring reconciliation and peace in
Burma. However, it recently vetoed a Security Council resolution on
Burma. Yet with the threat of Olympics boycott, China has yielded
significantly to condemn Sudan's genocidal regime.
Please note that this action is NOT a call to boycott the Olympics.

Subject: re: tickets
Dear Sirs/Madams,
I am very interested in purchasing tickets to some of the events at
next year's Olympic games.
However I cannot, in good conscience, attend the Beijing Olympics
unless your government uses its influence to improve the political
situation in Burma. China has substantial economic interests in the
country, provides large amounts of economic aid, and invests heavily
in infrastructure projects there. Additionally, your government
provides extensive logistical support to Burma's military government.
All this make China uniquely placed to influence it.
The people of Burma have, in a very peaceful manner, insisted that
their rights be respected. I ask no more of your government than that
it cease its support for the current regime, and encourage dialog with
the democratically elected representatives of the Burmese nation.
I, the Burmese people, and the world would be grateful for your
assistance in this matter. Your courage will go a long way towards
making the 2008 Olympics a success.
With sincere thanks,
(your name)

Hi!
I'm from Scilla, a small town in southern region of Calabria, Italy.
I'm following your fight for freedom since it began.
I daily update my own blog with the news comin' from all over the world about the Burmese situation and for me, your blog is one of the main sources.
I hope you're not sorry for that. I only want that everybody knows what is really happening over there.
In my blog I made a permanent link with the "Burma-Myanmar Genocide 2007" site and in the header I specifically wrote:"The news reported in this section are mostly taken from the burmese dissidents'blogers".
The same blog, named http://littiriononnu.blogspot.com/,
is also linked and "amplified" thanks to the www.malanova.it, a site that I made with some friends of mine who are workin' in the rest of Italy.
Well, I want you to know just one thing: you're not alone in this fight for freedom and democracy!
So long!
Francesco
P.S.:I just have sent my first letter to Chinese government
My letter has a slight addition (fact) before the letter starts, the rest is exactly as the template... it reads like this... Chinese are also superstitious.
Dear Sir/Madam
Fact:
Burma's pains and the Olympics can not be separated.
The Beijing Olympics could become known as the Burma Olympics.
The 08/08/88 Burmese massacre anniversary falls exactly 20 years later,
the same day the Olympic Games will begin 8/8/8. Please help Burma people.

With sincere thanks,
oh I forgot to mention that I received a reply this morning saying that "they will process my email as soon as possible"...LOL
The little devil in me thinks that
wouldn't it be nice to know the VISA card numbers and expiry date, of
1) All the top China government officials?
2) The UN China Ambassador
3) Mr Rasputin's
4) Mr Johnnie Howard of Australia
5) Mr John Downer FM of Aust
we'll buy our olympic tickets and thanks to their generosity and KINDNESS.
This is such a good idea. But they will change the email address or filter the words to block your email. So I would recommend
1. Visit this http://en.beijing2008.cn/bocog/contactus/
2. Don't use same template all the time. Update every few days. Eventually you will need to avoid using Burma or Myanmar at all.
3. Send to all the emails listed in 1 as well as the email listed in the original post.
I will start this tomorrow when I can think clearly again. It is so mentally exhausting to read all the latest news yet good to know so much of it is still filling news space.
good idea
Thanks for the reminder, I got it all worked out... I promise not to use Burma or... I will use... oh never mind they are watching this site... hehehe... but yes you are quite correct they will change address and block me yeah... and one day I will walk along the free streets of BURMA, I will skip myanmar... as it is not mine...
One more thing that they can do is block our email addresses. So it's best that we each use at least 4 or 5 emails. I started sending mine just 10 minutes ago.
Off the subject, but here is a response I have just got from Rolls Royce:
Dear Madam,
the reports from the Burma Campaign are indeed accurate. We
(Rolls-Royce) notified them yesterday of our intent to withdraw from our limited
business involvement with Burma.
The pressure from outside is starting to mount.
Any sceptics that thought petitions, peace actions and lobbying don't get results are very wrong!
Businesses are starting to put ethics, morals and human rights ABOVE profit and greed. Congratulations to Tiffanies, Cartier and Rolls Royce, just some fo the companies that are doing the right thing.
In the spirit of Buddha Dharma.
Love and peace

Jewellers of America are also on the way out... it sounds so good...
i wrote a similar message as above but at the same time thought... shouldn't someone mention in that letter that the chinese government is supposedly hurting all those falun gong people as well?
I'm hitting the sponsors too:
Comment: 2008 Olympic Sponsorship: Keep in mind, you are sponsoring the Chinese, who right now are a big problem to the Burmese people. First of all, I wont be supporting the Olpymics whatsoever if the Chinese government does not change their policies regarding the Burmese government. Furthermore, I will be motivate to boycott mcdonalds and urge ALL around me to do so as well. Will will do this using myspace, blogspot, youtube, new papers, flyers, and any other means necessary. You have a responsibility to the world and we, your customers, will hold you to it. Your company is sponsoring dictatorship and it will not be tolerated. We, the people, expect you, the McDonalds corporation, to stand up and make your voice heard. Pull your sponsorship of the 2008 Olypmics if China does not respond with the rest of the world, with the UN to the activities currently taking place. We expect McDonalds corporation to express its opinion and support pro democracy demonstrators in Burma.
Sincerely, Carl
Good idea Carl, does anyone know how to find out WHICH companies are sponsoring the Olympics, lobbying them all might be a good idea!
Helz
Hrmms, I found one via but it seems to go up and down:
http://en.beijing2008.cn/90/53/column211995390.shtml
It listed:
McDonalds
Adidas
GE
Visa
Cocacola
UPS
To name a few.
This article:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2006-08/08/content_659633.htm
Mentions a few of the ones I mentioned. I'll keep digging to see what I can get my hands on.
This one adds a few companies, mostly chinese but VW is among them:
http://hrw.org/campaigns/china/beijing08/08sponsors.htm
Thanks Carl, I have found this one:
http://en.beijing2008.cn/90/53/column211995390.shtml
The message to Coka-Cola has bounced back, perhaps the words boycott, China and Burma are already causing a stir. Any ideas?
Hi helz,
Here are a few tips to do!!
1. Once Burma is blocked, use B-U-R-M-A, etc, etc. Then you will have billions of ways to avoid the word filters.
2. Instead of using text all time, use pictures, and text converted to pictures (such as screen captures, pdf, etc)
You guys should do the same to Burmese embassies around the world and government emails too!!
http://supportburmesepeople.blogspot.com/2007/10/email-links.html
Here is the list of some Burmese embassies', Chinese Embassies' and Beijing 2008 emails. Use it as you please. I will add more later. Please feel free to add more too in comments.
Thank you!
I have found that the UK contact details for some of these companies do not include an email address, I will write instead. Also several only have a contact form with very little space for comments, so I will also write to them.
Love and peace
Helz

Beyond the action with email, with the support of international companies that withdraw support, everybody can use the olympic logo (I mean the logo you find in http://en.beijing2008.cn/spirit/beijing2008/graphic/n214070081.shtml)and, instead using the official message and olympic rings, write words like "free Burma", "remember Burma victims" etc.
If the logo is spread world around in this version, it will kills the offical logo, that is the more this logo is used with references to freedom, to Burma, to peace, to honours the victims the more will be a counterpart of the official message.
It is important to note that the logo is not graphically changed but only words are added, so that no copyright is broken.
It is extremely important that the changed logo is used as often as possible!
this is a list of companies that do business in burma/with the junta that support the terrible government and help them gain funds:

And here's a reply from McDonalds:
Hello Carl:
Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's regarding the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. As an Olympic sponsor, we support the IOC's position that the most impactful platform for discussion and resolution of this complex international issue be at the United Nations and government level.
McDonald's has been a proud sponsor of the Olympic Movement for more than 30 years because we believe in and share the Olympic ideals of teamwork, excellence and being the best. Our focus has been and will continue to be on supporting the spirit of the Games, and celebrating excellence and achievement among people the world over.
Again, thank you for contacting McDonald's.
